The Waynesville Tigers honored their seniors on Wednesday night. The Tigers came away with another win defeating a conference and district opponent.
The game was supposed to be played on Tuesday, but nature had her own plans. The makeup date on Wednesday only allowed for the Varsity Tigers to play. Before the game, the Freshman Tigers defeated the St. James Tigers in the Waynesville Freshman Tournament.
The school and Tigers coaching staff began the varsity night by recognizing David Adams Jr, Caleb Barnes, and Tanner Simpson before the game. Those three seniors have been key players for Waynesville the last few seasons.
The Waynesville Tigers went into to the game with a 13-7 record and the Camdenton Lakers had a 3-15 record on the year.
Waynesville began the first period with a strong performance. The Tigers took and early 11-0 lead that was eventually equalled by the Lakers. Both teams tied the score 11-11 halfway through the quarter. Waynesville was able to take a lead after the first period 23-14. The Tigers began to warm up in the second period and clamped their defense down as they outscored the Lakers 12-5 in the period. The Waynesville Tigers led 35-19 at the halftime break.
Waynesville once again came out and were able to again outscore the Lakers 12-8 in the third quarter. The Tigers led 47-27 after the third period of the game. Both teams began to phase in some younger players in the final period as the Lakers were able to win a quarter for the first time during the game 15-12. That was not enough to overcome the Waynesville lead and the Tigers won the game 59-42.
Head Waynesville Tiger Boys Basketball Coach Chris Pilz said, after the win, “It was a good win for us against a conference and district opponent. We led the whole game and were able to close out well. We had good contributions out of everyone that played. We still need to get better in all aspects.”
The Waynesville Tigers improve their season record to 13-7 and remain one game out from tying for an Ozark Conference Title. The Camdenton lakers drop to 3-16 on the season.
The Waynesville Tigers were led in scoring by Junior Carson Cavalier with 18 points in the conference win. Senior Tanner Simpson and Junior Gunner Reese both scored seven points in the victory. Both Senior Caleb Barns and Sophomore Eric Morris scored six points each in the game. Senior David Adams scored five points and Junior Tahje Stewart added five points for the Tigers. Sophomore Avant Hill and Freshman Shaq Fregiste both assisted in scoring and combined for six more points in the win.
The Camdenton Lakers were led in scoring by DeLauntent with 11 points. Anderson scored eight points and Golliher added seven points of his own. Virtue scored six points in the conference loss. Pasley, Eveland, and Graves all combined for nine more points for the Camdenton lakers.
The Waynesville Tigers next game is in West Plains tonight. The Camdenton Lakers travel to Rolla for another Ozark Conference game.
