The Waynesville Lady Tigers picked up two Ozark Conference wins over the weekend. The girls improved their season record to 19-3 after the wins and are 5-1 in the conference and take of the Springfield Kickapoo Lady Chiefs tomorrow in Springfield who are currently 20-3 on the season. The Kickapoo girls are currently 7-0 in conference play.

West Plains Lady Zizzers - Thursday

The Lady Tigers hosted the West Plains Lady Zizzers. The ninth grade game was won by the Zizzers with a score of 29-24. The junior varsity girls also were defeated 41-20.

The varsity game was a different story as the Zizzers came into the game with a 13-9 record on the year and a 3-2 record in conference play.

The Lady Zizzer came out on a hot streak and were able to hang on in the first period and keep a 16-14 lead. The Lady Tigers were able to nearly double the West Plains girls as they out scored them 13-7. Waynesville led at halftime with a score of 27-23.

The Lady ZIzzers came out again in the third quarter and were able to edge out the Lady Tigers 11-7. Both the Lady Tigers and Lady Zizzers were knotted up at 34-34 following the quarter. The Lady Tigers used the final period of the game to make several key baskets and free throws. Waynesville out scored West Plains 22-17 in the final period of the game. The Waynesville Lady Tigers won the close Ozark Conference game 56-51.

Head Waynesville Lady Tigers Head Coach Brittany Matlock said, after the win, “It was a good team win. We had several girls step up on both ends of the floor and we still need to clean up some things on both ends but I am proud of their effort.”

The Lady Tigers were led in the game by Stone with 24 points. Both Evans and Perry scored 10 points each. Both Poinsette and Shoulders added six points in the win for the Lady Tigers.

The West Plains Lady Zizzers were led in scoring by Meeks with 21 points and Davidson with 14 points in the loss. Brunson score eight points for West Plains. Cunningham and Mahan combined for eight points together in the game. 

Springfield Parkview Lady Vikings - Monday (Senior Night)

The Lady Tigers had their senior night on Monday and came away with another Varsity conference win. The junior varsity girls lost to the Lady Vikings 38-26.

Waynesville honored seniors Re’Shawna Stone, Madison Conatser, Kiara Shoulders, Katie Handley, and Victoria Hooker before the varsity girls game. They also invited Parkview seniors Taylor Levings, Kiara Smith, and McKayla Oesterreich to be congratulated as well.

The Waynesville girls set the tone early in the game and led the game 18-12 after the first period. The Lady Tigers did now slow down in the second period as the out scored the Lady Vikings 10-4. Waynesville went into halftime with a 28-16 lead.

The Lady Tigers continued the tone of the game and once again out scored the Parkview girls 18-11 in the third period. Waynesville extended their lead to 46-27 after the third quarter of play. The Waynesville girls were able to keep the Lady Vikings back and out shot them 16-11 in the final quarters of the game. The Waynesville Lady Tigers won the Conference game 62-38.

Head Waynesville Coach Matlock said this after the game, “It was a nice win on senior night.  We played well on both ends of the floor.  Will continue to work a few things but i am proud of them.  Our next game is on Thursday at Kickapoo for their senior night.”

The Waynesville Lady Tigers were led in the game by Stone with 17 points. Shoulders scored 15 points in the win. Both Perry and Poinsette score nine points each to contribute for the team. Evan scored eight points for Waynesville. Both Conaster and Handley combined for four points on the night.

The Parkview Lady Vikings were led in the game by Acord with 11 points. Diggs added nine points and Mitchell scored six in the loss. Whalen, Stiles, and Klein all scored four points each in the conference loss.

The Lady Tigers will travel to Springfield and take on the Kickapoo Lady Chiefs in what will decide if the Waynesville girls have a shot at the Ozark Conference Title in Springfield.
