The Waynesville Tigers Traveled to Springfield on Tuesday and took on the Parkview Vikings. The Boys went into the game setting in second place in conference standings. Waynesville fell in a close game 66-56 in the game. The Tigers are 14-8 on the season and are 5-2 in Ozark Conference play. Both Rolla and Glendale are 7-0 and play each other to decide the 2018 Ozark Conference Basketball Champion.
The junior varsity team started the night with a strong performance. They were able to edge out the Vikings 9-7 in the first period. The Tigers squeaked by the Parkview boys 13-12 in the second period of the game. Waynesville led at halftime 22-19 over the home Vikings.
The Tigers were able to build a more comfortable lead in the third quarter as they out scored the Vikings 17-11. Waynesville lead 39-30 of three periods. The Parkview Vikings were not going to lay down just yet and forced some errors on the Tigers part in the final quarter. Waynesville was ready at the end and hit several key free throws. The Vikings were able to out score the Tigers 16-12. Waynesville had a big enough lead to hold on to a 51-46 win. The junior varsity Tigers improved their season record to 8-2 on the year.
The varsity boys had their hands full against a tough 12-9 Parkview boys team. The Tigers entered the game with a 14-7 record.
The Vikings came out and took a 21-12 lead after the first quarter of the game. Waynesville was able to come back in the second period and out score the Parkview Boys 17-15 and get the game closer. The Viking held a 36-29 lead going into the first half of play.
The Tigers came out in the third quarter and just edged out the Vikings again by out scoring them 13-12 thanks to some key baskets by the Waynesville bench. The Tigers closed the Parkview lead and only trailed 48-42 after three periods of play. The Tigers tried to slow down the Parkview Vikings in the final period but everytime the Viking went to the line they made their free throws. The Vikings held on and out scored Waynesville 18-14 in the fourth quarter.
Head Waynesville Tigers Boys Basketball Coach Chris Pilz said this after the quarter, “We got off to a slow start. We fought back and battled the whole game but could not take the lead. Give them(Parkview) credit, they are coached well and play hard. We did some good things but missed too many shots to get the win.”
The Parkview Vikings were able to win the game 66-56.
The Waynesville Tigers were led in scoring by Carson Calier with 19 points. David Adams added 13 points of his own in the loss. Shaq Fregiste score six points for the Tigers. Both Tanner Simpson and Gunner Reese score five points each to keep Waynesville close. Zeke Rogers and Tahje Stewart combined for six points in the conference loss. Caleb Barnes added a basket of his own.
The Parkview Vikings were led in the game by Taylor who scored 24 points in the win. Freeman added 11 for the Vikings. Mason scored nine points. Clark and Morrison combined for 11 in the win. Both Elliot and RIxa combine for nine points.
The Waynesville Tigers next game will be against the Kickapoo Chiefs tomorrow night at Waynesville High School. The chiefs are 14-10 on the year and are on a three game losing streak.
The Parkview Vikings travel to Lebanon tomorrow.
