The Waynesville Lady Tigers traveled to Springfield and faced the undefeated Kickapoo Lady Chiefs in conference play. Both teams came into the game ranked in the top five in Missouri. The Lady Tigers were 5 and the Lady Chiefs were 3.
The Waynesville Lady Tigers began the game by outscoring the Lady Chiefs 22-15. Both team score seven points each in the second quarter. The Waynesville girls led 29-22 going into the first half of the game.
The Kickapoo girls outpaced the Lady Tigers 18-11 in the third period of the game. The Lady Chiefs picked up their first lead of the night at 40-30 in the conference game. The Lady Chiefs were able to outscore the 20-9 in the final period of the game. The Kickapoo Lady Chiefs were able to win the game 60-49 and Capture at least a tie of the Ozark Conference Girls Basketball Championship.
Head Waynesville Lady Tigers Coach Brittany Matlock said, after the game, “It was a tough loss to a good team. We have got to continue to move forward. Our next game is Monday at Joplin.”
The Waynesville Lady Tigers were led in scoring by Stone with 23 points. Perry scored 11 points and Shoulders added eight points. Both Evans and Coleman combined for seven points in the game.
The Kickapoo Lady Chiefs were led in scoring by Collins with 21 points and Merced with 17 points. Green scored 10 points in the win. Senn added seven points. Both Fredrick and Barrett combined for five points to secure another conference title.
The Waynesville Lady Tigers go into this week with a 19-4 record. Waynesville will face Joplin for the last time this week. The Kickapoo Lady Chief improve their record to 22-3 on the year. Kickapoo has Columbia Hickman later this week.
