Laquey High School is the host of this year’s Class 2 District 9 Basketball Tournament. It features the Crocker Lions, Iberia Rangers, Laquey Hornets, Newburg Wolves, Richland Bears, and Stoutland Tigers from the Frisco League. It also features the Belle Tigers and Vienna Eagles from Maries County.

Girls

1 Richland Lady Bears vs 8 Laquey Lady Hornets - Saturday

The day started off with the top and bottom seeds matching up. The Lady Bears and Lady Hornets have met three time already this season all three went to the Richland Girls.

The Lady Bears started the game off strong as they were able get an early 15-10 lead in the first quarter. The Richland girls locked down the defense in the second quarter as they were able to out score the Lady Hornets 21-6. Richland led 36-16 at halftime.

The Lady bears again locked down Laquey in the third quarter by out scoring them 22-9. Richland extended their lead to 58-25 after three periods of play. The younger players finished out the night in the final period as the Lady Bears just edged out Laquey 3-2 during the running clock. The Richland Lady Bears won the game 61-27 and advanced to play the number five seeded Belle Lady Tigers on Tuesday night. The Winner of that game will go on to play in the District Championship game.

The Richland Lady Bears were led in scoring by Morgan Moss with 20 points and the Lady Hornets were led in scoring by Kylee Elmore with 10 points. 

4 Iberia Lady Rangers vs 5 Belle Lady Tigers - Saturday

The next game of the day involved the two middle teams. The number four seeded Iberia Lady Rangers and the number five seeded Belle Lady Tigers. This was a much closer game and the Belle girls were able to upset the higher seed Lady Rangers.

The Iberia girls took off to an early 14-4 in the first quarter of the game. Both team kept the score low in the second period as the Lady Tigers outscore the Lady Rangers 9-5. Iberia went into the half with a 19-13 lead.

The Lady Tigers came out striking as they were able to out score the Iberia girls 11-5 in the period. Both teams were tied at 24 points each. The Belle Lady Tigers used their momentum to out score the Lady Rangers 19-8 in the final quarter of the game. Belle won the game 43-32 and advanced to play the top seeded Richland Lady Bears in the next game on Tuesday Night.

The Lady Tigers were led in scoring by Chloe Krause with 12 points and the Lady Rangers were led in the game by Paige Spencer who scored seven points.

2 Crocker Lady Lions vs 7 Vienna Lady Eagles - Saturday

The number two seeded Crocker Lady Lions took no the number seven seeded Vienna Lady Eagles. After a close first half the Lady Lions won the game.

The Lady Eagles took a 12-11 lead after the first period. The Crocker girls edged out the Lady Eagles 13-12 in the second period. Both teams were tied at halftime with 24 points each.

The Lady Lions took control of the game in the third period and out scored the Vienna Girls 24-13. Crocker increased their led to 48-37 after three quarters of play. The Lady Lions kept the pace up and outscore Vienna 15-8 in the final period. The Crocker Lady Lions won the game 63-45 and advanced to play the number 3 seeded Stoutland Lady Tiger on Tuesday. 

3 Stoutland Lady Tigers vs 6 Newburg Lady Wolves - Saturday

The number 3 seeded Stoutland Lady Tigers faced off against the number 6 seed Newburg Lady Wolves. The Stoutland girls edged out the Newburg Girls in a close game.

Both teams were tied at 9-9 after the first quarter of the game. The Stoutland Girls were able to outscore the Lady Wolves 14-8 in the second period. Stoutland led 23-17 at halftime.

The third quarter was another close one for both team as Newburg just edged the Lady Tigers 10-8. Stoutland held onto a 31-27 lead after three quarters. Both team scored 14 points each in the final period as several players began to foul out of the game. The Stoutland lady Tigers were able to win the game 45-41 and advance to the next round on Tuesday against the Crocker lady Lions.

The Stoutland Girls were led in scoring by Melanie Hobbs with 14 points and the Newburg Lady Wolves were led by Macey Suschanke with her 15 points in the game.   

Boys

1 Vienna Eagles vs 8 Laquey Hornets - Monday

The Vienna Eagles came into the district as the top seed but did not expect to have the resistance of the Laquey Hornets. The Eagles overcame the game and won in overtime.

The Hornets came out on fire and took a 19-8 lead after the first quarter of the game. Both team scored 10 points in the second period. The Hornets led 29-18 going into halftime.

The Vienna Eagles took control in the third period and was able to have a strong defensive game. They out scored the Eagles 21-7 in the game. Vienna led for the first time in the game 39-36. The Hornets did not settle in and return to their nest though as they came back and out scored the Eagles 22-19 in the final period of regulation. The score was tied 58-58 as time ran out. The Vienna Eagles were able to make a couple key free throws in the final period and outscore the Hornets 7-2 in the overtime period. Vienna was able to win the game 65-60 and move on to face the Newburg Wolves on Wednesday night at Laquey High School.

The Vienna Eagles were led by Isaac Weider with 30 points in the win. The Laquey Hornets were led by scoring with 17 points in the close loss.

4 Newburg Wolves vs 5 Belle Tigers - Monday

The Wolves and the Tigers gave the gym another great game as both teams stayed close and the Wolves came away with the win.

After the first period both team were tied as 12 each. The Belle Tigers edged out the Wolves 15-14 in the second period and took their first lead of he game. The Tigers took a 27-26 lead going into the first half of the game.

Both teams were able to come out and play good defense as they each score nine points in the third period. The Belle Tigers held onto a 36-35 lead after three quarters of play in the game. The Newburg Wolves were able to cage the Tigers in the final period of the game and out score them 21-13. The Newburg Wolves won the game 56-49 and will face the Vienna Eagles on Wednesday night.

The Wolves were led in scoring by Ryan Terry with 20 points and the Belle Tigers were led by Skylar Smith with 18 points on the night. 

2 Crocker Lions vs 7 Stoutland Tigers - Monday

The Crocker Lions came into the game as the number two seed in the tournament. The Lions took the lead and never looked back.

The Lions led 24-18 after a strong shooting first half by both teams. The Lions out score the Tigers again in the second period 25-18. The Crocker Lions increased their lead in the game to 49-36.

The Stoutland boys could not slow down the Lions as Crocker able to out score the Tigers 24-13 in the third period. The Lions led the game 73-49 after the quarter. The Stoutland Tigers were able to beat out the Lions 23-14 in the final period but unable to overcome the Crocker lead. Crocker won the game 87-72. Crocker will move on and play the Iberia Rangers on Wednesday night.

The Crocker Lions were led in scoring by Ethyn Boorom with a district tournament high 43 points in a single game. The Stoutland Tigers were led by Zane Hodges who had a strong 38 points. He also had a team high point total for the Tigers this season.

3 Iberia Rangers vs 6 Richland Bears - Monday

The Rangers and the Bears are no stranger as both teams have seen each other many time this season. Tonight's game was no different as the score was close throughout the game.

The Iberia Rangers took an early 17-14 lead in the game. Iberia was able to out score the Bears in the second quarter 14-8 and increase their lead. The Rangers led 31-22 going into halftime.

The Bears picked up their pace in the third period as they were able to win the period 17-16 in a very physical game. The Rangers held onto a 47-39 lead after three quarters. The Rangers were able to outscore the Bears 25-17 in the final period of the game. The Iberia Rangers won the game 72-56. The Iberia Rangers will play the Crocker Lions on Wednesday.

The Iberia Rangers were led in scoring by Carter Halley with 22 points in the win. The Bears were led in the game by 26 points.
