The Tigers Traveled to Jefferson City and took on the defending Class 5 State Champions. The game was close but the Jays were able to make a late game comeback.

The Tigers were led in hits in the game by Ethan Gatzemeyer who had three hits. Eric Kane, Tanner Simpson, and Cameron Macrum had two hit each in the game. Devon Stearns and Colin Crockett also had a hit.

Kane led the team with two runs batted in and Marcum had a run batted in of his own. Simpson, Marcum, and Crockett also made it to base on a walk.

Simpson took the loss after pitching 4.1 innings. He allowed four hits and five runs during his time pitching. He walked five batters and struck out two Jays in the game. Ethan Brown closed the game out by pitching 1.2 innings. He allowed three hits and two run in the game. Brown also struck out two batters.

Head Waynesville Tigers Baseball Coach Scott Turner said this when asked to describe the game, “The varsity lost 5-7 in a very competitive back and forth game against the Class 5 defending state champ Jays. We jumped in the lead 1-0 in the top of the second. Jays responded scoring four in the bottom of the second. We bounced back and showed perseverance tying the ball game back at four in the top of the third. In the top of the fourth we took the lead 5-4. However we ran into some trouble in the bottom of the fifth allowing two runs. We tried to respond in the top of the 6th with the bases loaded and two outs we hit a line drive that their shortstop made a diving play to catch the ball and end the inning. We out hit Jeff City 11-7 and only had one error.

The Waynesville Tigers will host the Ozark Conference opponent Springfield Hillcrest at East Elementary on Tuesday.
