The Dixon Bulldogs continued their winning streak with a win over the Crocker Lions last week to earn another Frisco League victory.
The Bulldogs hosted a game for the first time in a week due to the wet weather. The Crocker Lions picked up the first run of the game in the top of the first inning. Both teams pitching held strong in the second inning and the score remained 1-0 Crocker. The Lions scores in the top of the third to make the score 2-0 in their favor. Dixon responded in the bottom of the fourth inning with three runs. That gave them a 3-2 lead. The Bulldogs would never look back after they scored six runs in the fourth. The Lions attempted a comeback in the top of the seventh but were unable to overcome the Bulldogs lead.
The Dixon Bulldogs won the game 9-3.
Sabastian Salais won the game in five innings of pitching. He only allowed two runs from three hits. Salais also struck out seven Lions. Walker Shelton closed the last two innings out and allowed just one run and one hit. He also struck out two batters.
Both Tyler Morgan and Clayton Sinden led the Bulldogs from the plate. Morgan hit a single and a double. He also scored and hit in two more Bulldogs. Sinden hit two singles, scored a run, and stole a base. Braden Mahurin hit a single, scored twice and hit in two fellow Bulldogs in the game. Salais hit a single, scored twice, and walked twice.
Cyrus Nickels hit a single and had a run batted in during the win. Jaryn Brown hit a double and also scored. Shannon Kampeter also hit a single and scored.
Head Dixon Bulldogs baseball coach Alex Shelton said this after the game, “This was a good Conference win for us tonight. I thought we came out a little flat to start, but did a good job of making quick adjustments and came back and put together some good at bats in the middle innings. Starter Sabastian Salais did a nice job of settling in and worked five innings to pick up the win. Walker Shelton was sharp in relief to close out the game. The win moves us to 9-1 this spring and 2-0 in Frisco League.”
The Junior Varsity Bulldogs were able to set the tone early and win the game 7-1. Dixon scored three in the first, one in the second, two in the third, and one more in the fourth. The Lions scored in the top of the fourth inning.
Shea Houle picked up the win by striking out eight Lions in three innings. Sinden and Morgan both pitched one inning each. They were able to close the game out and keep the win.
Morgan hit a double and scored once. He also hit in an run batted in. Houle hit a double and had a run batted in. Nickels hit a single, scored twice, and stole a base.
