The Dixon Bulldogs traveled to Stoutland High School and took on the Tigers in a Frisco League Game.
The Bulldogs were able to pick up the 16-4 win in five innings. Dixon picked up four runs in the top of the first inning. Both teams held the other in the second period. The Bulldogs scored one run in the top of the third inning to give them a 5-0 lead. The Tigers were able to respond in the bottom of the third with three runs of their own. Stoutland trailed the Bulldogs 5-3 after three innings.
The Dixon bats heated up as they scored five runs during the top of the fourth inning. That would secure the win for the Bulldogs as they led 10-3 after the fourth innings. Dixon scored another six runs in the top of the fifth inning. The Tigers were unable to make the comeback as they managed just one run in the bottom of the fifth inning. The Bulldogs won their 10th game of the season with the win.
The Bulldogs pitching staff held the Tigers to four total hits in the game. Walker Shelton pitched two innings and struck out four batters while allowing just one hit. Evan Nickels pitched 1.2 innings and also struck out four Tigers. He allowed three runs an walked one batter in the game. Clayton Sinden Closed the inning out and stuck the final batter out in the fourth inning. Braden Mahurin closed the game out an struck three more Stoutland Batters out. He also gave up a run in the bottom of the fifth.
Mahurin hit a double, two singles, scored twice, and hit in two batters. He also stole two bases. Jaryn Brown also had three hits in the game. He had three run batted in and added a stolen base. Tyler Morgan hit two singles and scored three runs. He also hit in two Bulldogs. Shea Houle had a single and double in the game. He also scored twice while hitting in three runs. Cyrus Nickels hit two singles and had two runs batted in. He scored three runs and was walked once. Shannon Kampeter hit a double, scored once, had a run batted in, and stole a base. Walker Shelton hit a single, scored a run, and stole a base.
Dixon Bulldogs head baseball coach Alex Shelton said this about the game, “This was another solid game from the boys tonight. We came out and hit the ball exceptionally well tonight, totaling 16 hits in five innings. We were also able to conserve pitching, as we have a weekend tournament coming up Friday and Saturday. I was very happy with our efforts tonight. Our record is now 10-1 (3-0 Conf.).”
The Junior Varsity Bulldogs also won a short game. Dixon came out and hit eight runs in the top of the first inning. The Bulldogs scored 2 runs in the second inning while the Tigers scored one of their own. Dixon led 10-1 going into the final inning. The Bulldogs scored seven more runs in the third and won the game 17-1.
Houle pitched one inning and stuck out one batter. C. Nickels struck one batter out, allowed one run, and gave up a hit. Morgan also pitched one inning.
Brown had three hits and scored twice. He also had four runs batted in. Jacob Cross had a hit, scored twice, and hit in a runner. C. Nickels hit a double, scored three runs, and had a run batted in. Anthony McCance score once off a single. Houle hit a single and scored twice. Shannon Kampeter also hit a single and scored twice. Morgan had a double and scored twice in the win. He also had a run batted in and stole two bases.
Dixon played Newburg last night, but results were not available at press time. They’ll play the Belle Tigers tonight.
