An Iberia man was arrested on multiple charges last week after allegedly attempting to evade a traffic stop in Maries County.

According to a press release from the Marries County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy observed a vehicle going 91 mph in a 55-mph zone on W. Highway 28 during the evening hours of April 12, 2018. When the officer attempted to pull the vehicle over, it reportedly fled west at a high rate of speed. Deputies pursued the vehicle from Highway 28 to Route N, then to Route V and Marries County Road 614 towards Highway 42. At some point, the Vienna Police Department also joined the pursuit.

The vehicle failed to negotiate a corner near the bridge on Maries County Road 614 and crashed, the press release states. 

Zachariah O. Hertel, 33, of Iberia was identified as the driver. He was placed under arrest for felony resisting arrest, felony driving while revoked, speeding and possession of a controlled substance.

According to the press release, no one was hurt.
