The Dixon Baseball team opened the first game of the Salem Tournament last weekend. The Bulldogs won the close game 5-4.

The Bulldogs were able to get an early 3-1 lead after the first inning. The Tigers scored two runs in the top of the second inning to tie the score at 3-3. Salem scored another run again in the third inning to give them a 4-3 lead in the game. Both teams held each other in the fourth inning. The Bulldogs were able to get two run in the bottom of the fifth inning. That gave Dixon a 5-4 lead they would not give up. The Bulldogs won the game with that score.

Head Dixon Bulldogs baseball coach Alex Shelton said this after the game, “This was a nice win for our team tonight.  We faced a very good offensive team and did a nice job of battling and competing tonight.”
Braden Mahurin pitch the complete seven innings while striking out eight Tigers. He only allowed four runs off of nine hits in the win.
Coach Shelton said this about the pitching, “Braden Mahurin, touched for a few early runs, did an excellent job of making some in-game adjustments and locked down the last 4 innings.  After getting behind in the first, we responded well and put up 3 of our own in the bottom half of the inning. After again getting behind, we did a nice job of executing and manufacturing and were able to regain the lead in the fifth. That would prove to be enough for the win.”
Mahurin went 2-2 on the night. He hit a single, double, scored a run, and hit in one run. Sabastian Salais was 2-3 in the game and scored twice off of two singles. Shea Houle had a hit and run batted in in the Bulldogs win. Tyler Morgan scored and had a single.
Shelton said this after the win, “I was really proud of our boys tonight and getting that first win in a tournament is always a big key.”
The Dixon Bulldogs added a conference win on Tuesday over the Newburg Wolves. The Bulldogs came out strong and won the game in five innings 14-3.
Dixon scored five runs in the top of the first inning while the Wolves scored three in the bottom. The Bulldogs led 5-3 after the first inning of the game. Dixon added two more runs in the second to improve their lead to 7-3. The Dixon pitching would hold off in the final three innings and win the game 14-3 thanks to the bats heating up in the fourth.
Sabastian Salais picked up the win in in the first inning by only allowing three run on three hits. Walker Shelton pitched two innings and struck out two while allowing only two hits in the game. Evan Nickels struck out two batters in his two innings during the game.
Braden Mahurin went 1-4 on the night and hit a grand slam homerun in the game. He also scored on his own. Cyrus Nickels went 1-2 with a triple, a run, and was allowed on base twice. Salais also went 1-2. He scored three times and hit in a batter. He also hit a single. Jaryn Brown had a single, scored once, and hit in three batters. Shannon Kampeter hit a single, scored once, and hit in two batters also.
This was a good, solid win tonight.  We came out and scored 5 runs early and then added as the game went on.  We got solid pitching and solid defense and picked up our 12th win tonight.  We are now 12-1 this spring, 4-0 in Conference play.
The Junior Varsity boys won the game in three innings 5-2 Dixon scored three in the first and two in the second while the Wolves score two run in the bottom of the second.
Clayton Sinden won the game with his 2.1 Innings. He struck out two batters while allowing two runs on two hits. Shea Houle closed out the final inning with two strikeouts and only allowed one hit.
Sinden scored on a single. He also hit in one batter. Shea Houle hit a single in the win.
