Waynesville and Dixon competed this week in their last regular season games of the season before districts. Waynesville had a tough loss while Dixon picked up a win.
Dixon Bulldogs vs Osage Indians - Monday 5th
The Dixon Bulldogs hosted the School of the Osage Indians on Monday. The Bulldogs picked up a 7-4 win. The Dixon seniors were honored before the game.
Osage began the scoring in the game by picking up a run in both the first and the second innings. Dixon picked up the scoring after the fourth inning and scored seven runs in the fourth and fifth innings to give them a 7-2 lead. Osage picked up two runs in the sixth but were unable to overcome Dixon. The Bulldogs won the game 7-4 and won their 17th game of the season.
Walker Shelton pitched 4.1 inning and allowed two runs on two hits. He had five strikeouts in the contest. Sabastian Salais picked up the win by striking out three batters and only allowing two runs on four hits. Braden Mahurin got the save by adding a strikeout.
Shannon Kampeter went 2-3 on the night with a single, double, two runs, and hitting in two batters. Cyrus Nickels had a double and scored. Shea Houle scored and also hit a single.
Head Dixon baseball coach Alex Shelton said this after the game, “This was a good win for us on Senior Night. Even though we started out slow and it wasn’t our sharpest game of the year, the boys did well to compete and stay in the game. Walker Shelton battled through and got us into the fifth inning. Sabastian Salais worked 1.2 innings to pick up the win and Braden Mahurin worked a scoreless 7th to pick up the save. The biggest hit of the night came from Shannon Kampeter who ripped a bases loaded double down the third base line, to clear the bases. It was a nice win and our 17th on the season.
The Junior Varsity Bulldogs won their game 5-4 with hits from Tyler Morgan, Anthony McCance, CJ Baker and Kampeter. Houle picked up the win and Nickels got the save.
The Bulldogs fell to Iberia on Wednesday to end their regular season at 18-3.
Waynesville Tigers at Owensville Dutchmen - Thursday May 10th
The Waynesville Tigers traveled to Owensville on Thursday and competed against the Dutchman in the final regular season game of the year. The Dutchman picked up a last inning victory in the seventh to win the game 10-9.
Waynesville and Owensville both scored one run each in the first inning. The Tigers picked up the offense in the top of the second inning to gain a 4-1 lead. Owensville came back in the third inning and scored two runs. Waynesville still led 4-3 after the inning. The Tigers added two runs in the fourth inning to stretch their lead to 6-3. Both Owensville and Waynesville scored in the fifth inning. After the Inning Waynesville Still led 9-7. The Dutchman score three late game runs in the seventh inning to get a walkoff 10-9 win to close the season out.
This brings Waynesville’s regular season record to 7-15. Up next is round one of Districts this Saturday at Hillcrest against the host school at 11:30am.
Hunter O’Neil began the game and struck two batters outs while allowing three runs on three hits. Cameron Marcum pitch the next three inning and struck out one batter. He allowed four runs on five hits. Josh Rumph pitched 1.1 innings and took the loss. He also added a strike out.
Seth Farris led the Tigers with three hits in the game. Noah Ochoa Hit a double and a triple in the late game loss. Eric Kane, O’Neil, Marcum, and Devon Stearns all added hits in the game.
Head Waynesville Tigers baseball coach Scott Turner said this about the Junior Varsity game when asked about the finish, “The JV also lost a heartbreaker in the last inning. We were down 0-2 with two outs in our last at bat with no one on and were able to score six runs with two outs to take the lead. Unfortunately, Owensville in their last at bat was able to score five runs to win it. The JV had an overall good season going 7-10.”
