Crocker, Dixon and Richland all took part in Sectional track meets on Saturday, May 12.

Crocker athletes qualify for State Championship

The Crocker Lions and Lady Lions competed in the Class 2 Sectional 2 Track Meet on Saturday and qualified in several events this weekend at the Class 2 State Championship.

The Lady Lions placed eighth as a team with the team score of 41 points. The Lions were the team runner up with the score of 83 in the meet.

Jumps

Crocker began the day with several athletes qualifying in the jumps. Senior Ethan Boorom and sophomore Clyde Hoxworth both were the top two high jumpers in the sectional with their leap of 5’-10”. Sophomore Mariah Dean just missed the State meet with her fifth place jump of 4’-8”.

The Lions were represented well in the pole vault with two people competing in the event. The Lady Lions claimed the fifth place finish by sophomore Morgan Wall who jumped 7’-6”. Senior Dillion Porter was the runner up with his jump of 12’-6”.

Several Crocker athletes moved on to the State meet in the long and triple jumps. Senior Adam Shockley was the runner up in the long jump with his leap of 20’-8” and he was the triple jump champion with the leap of 42’-5 ¾. Sophomore Abigail Posten won the triple jump with here sectional best jump of 33’-5”.

Relays

The Lady Lions were the 4x100 meter relay champions with their time of 53.14 in the race. The girls team consisted of Wall, M Gan, Dean and Posten. The Lions broke their school record with the run of 45.07 on the day. The team was made up of Shockley, Boorom, Gan and Porter.

The boys were the runner up in the 4x200 meter relay with their near school record time of 1:33.34. Shockley, Hoxworth, Gan and Porter made up the team.

The boys 4x400 meter relay team was the runner up in the season best time of 3:37.93 in the race. Dhenem Lancaster, Fabio Felli, Gan and Porter were part of the team qualifying team.

The Lady Lions were once again able to continue the improvement from last week and placed fourth in the 4x800 meter relay with the time of 11:20.02. The team was made up of the following members, Madison Markley, M Gan, Sydney Hoxworth and Callie McMurtrey.

Sprints

Both the Lions and Lady Lions placed fourth in their division in the 100 meter dash. Posten ran a time of 13.15 while C. Hoxworth ran 11.66 in the race. Junior Ethan Gan placed fourth in the 200 meter dash with his run of 23.44 in a very fast race.

Head Crocker Lions track coach Jim Wall said this after the meet, “I'm proud of this group of athletes. This is the result of work they've put in during the season. I am Looking forward to a successful two days at the state meet this weekend.”

The Lions will be competing in the State meet at Jefferson City High School this Friday and Saturday.

Dixon qualifies five athletes to State Championship

The Dixon Bulldogs qualified the most athletes in several years for the Class 2 State Track and Field Championship. Five athletes are heading to Jefferson City High School this Friday and Saturday to compete for a State medal.

Dixon placed eighth at a team in the Sectional meet at South Callaway High School.

Throws

Junior Braden Perry was the first athlete to move on as he won the Sectional Championship with the javelin throw of 148’-4”. That also set another school record by him this season.

Relays

The 4x400 meter relay team moved on to the State Championship with their fourth place finish in the meet. The team of senior Justin Keith, senior Zach Shetler, senior Trevor Graves and Perry ran the time of 3:45.15.

The Bulldogs 4x800 meter relay team ended their postseason run in fifth place with a time of 9:27.14 in the race. The team consisted of junior Chase Beardslee, Keith, Perry and Shetler.

Sprints

Shetler qualified with his fourth place finish in the 400 meter dash. He ran a time of 52.30 in the very close race.

Graves was the only Bulldogs to make back to back appearances in several years. Last year he qualified for the 110 meter hurdles and placed 15th in Missouri. He qualified in the 300 meter hurdles this season with his second place finish. Graves ran his personal best time of 42.70 in the race.

Head Dixon Bulldogs Track Coach Jim Brown said this after the meet, “Our kids did very well at sectionals. Brady Perry set a new school record in the javelin and won our first javelin sectional championship.  Trevor Graves ran the best 300 hurdles of his career and finished 2nd. Zach Shetler and our 4x400 relay team ran close races to qualify. I was proud of our 4x800 team, we had 2 run their best times but finished 5th. When you run your best you can't be anything but proud.”

Richland ends track season at Sectionals

The Richland Bears ended their season in South Callaway with several athletes qualifying for the Class 2 Sectional 2 Track Meet. Both the Bears and Lady Bears finished the season strong.

The Lady Bears 4x800 meter relay team placed seventh in the meet with the time of 12:44.49. The team was made up of freshman Leanne Bailey, junior Adrialise Jones, sophomore Lindsey Peterson and sophomore Megan Peterson.

Freshman Dominque Wadley placed eighth in the Sectional with the time of 22.61.

Junior Emily Eckman finished the meet in eighth place with the time of 13.56. She just missed qualifying by less than one second. Eckman also placed sixth in the 400 meter dash with her run of 1:06.50 in the race.

Wadley was the eight place finisher in the 300 meter hurdles with a time of 50.48.

The Lady Bears scored six points in the sectional meet while the Bears scored two in the competitive event.
