The Waynesville Tigers had two players advance to State Tennis Sectionals on Saturday, May 12 in the Individual District Tournament.
Finishing second in doubles overall, Tyler Gayman and Cameron Martell played a great day of tennis. Seeding 3rd overall, the Gayman/Martell duo started with a bye in the tournament bracket. The Camdenton number two team finished ahead of Lebanon’s number one doubles team to lead them to a dual against the Tigers. Splitting sets, the Tigers took the lead and finished with a tiebreaker in the third set, 6-4, 4-6, 7-6 (7-4). Gayman and Martell then went on to challenge Central’s number two team in the semifinals. Splitting sets again, the Tigers won in yet another close match, 6-3, 3-6, 6-4. This guaranteed a trip to the Sectional match. Meeting a very tough Central team in the finals, the Tigers put up a fight, but lost 2-6, 3-6, finishing second overall.
Tyler and Cameron went back to Camdenton on Tuesday to play in the State Sectionals match against Rock Bridge, the number one ranked team in the State. Those results were not available at press time.
