Wearing their caps and gowns for the first time, Waynesville High School seniors participated in the Passing of the Torch ceremony on Thursday, May 17.

Teachers presented department awards and students were recognized for:

Earning the A+ Scholarship

Enlisting in the military

Completing the College Preparatory Studies Certificate

Receiving the George Washington Carver Award

President’s Award for Educational Excellence

President’s Award for Educational Achievement

In addition, William “Bill” DeMalade was named the Teacher of the Year, and accepted the award from his wife, Renita DeMalade, who was named last year’s Teacher of the Year.

During the Passing of the Torch, the following were named to these leadership positions for the WHS Student Body:

Emily Wilson, president

Randa Bland, vice president

Moxy Haines, secretary

Elisa Giles, historian
