The Crocker and Laquey fourth grade baseball teams both played Newburg in the past week.

Crocker v Newburg:

The Crocker Lions hosted the Newburg Wolves in a great fourth grade baseball matchup last week. The Wolves were able to comeback and win the close game 9-8.

The Newburg Wolves began the game by scoring one in the top of the first inning. The Lions were able to pick up the batting and scored four runs of their own. Crocker led 4-1 after the first inning finished.

Newburg began the second inning with a hit that would later help the Wolves score two runs in the top of the second inning. That moved them within one run of the Lions. The Crocker bats were once again on a hitting streak and scored four more of their own to extend their lead to 8-3 after two innings.

The Wolves had a good mid inning talk and it translated to six run scored in the top of the third inning. That gave them a 9-8 lead going into the final half inning. The Lions were able to get a couple batters on base but were unable to cross the plate.

The Newburg Boys were able to pull off the win with the score of 9-8 in the game.

Laquey v Newburg:

The fourth grade Laquey Hornets hosted the Newburg Wolves on Monday night. Newburg led the game for two innings, but the Hornet were able to pick up the pace with the bats in the bottom of the third inning and won the game 8-7.

The first inning began with the Newburg hitters scoring three runs in the top of the inning. They led 3-0. The Hornets were quick to respond back with four runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning. Laquey took a tight 4-3 lead after the first inning.

The Wolves were able to pick up two more runs in the top of the second inning. Laquey was quiet in their half of the inning and the Newburg boys took a 5-4 lead.

Both teams had hot bats in the final inning of the game as the Wolves began the inning by scoring two runs to increase their lead in the game to 7-4. During the middle of inning the Hornets coach had a quick talk with his boys about coming back. The hornets were able to get a couple of batters on base early in the inning. The Wolves changed their pitcher during the inning and the host Hornets took advantage of the change.

They quickly were only down by 2 until there was a delay in the game because of a rules question. After the officials and coaches talked the Hornets had a second out added because of a player who could not continue batting.

Laquey used a wild pitch to tie the game at 7-7 with two outs still on the board. The Hornets were able to get a walk off win after they hit a single into right field and were able to score on a throwing error.

The Laquey Hornets were able to win the game 8-7 after three innings.
