Pulaski County Presiding Commissioner Don McCulloch stands next to the Rose of Sharon bush on the southwest corner of the Courthouse grounds where commissioners have approved the removal of the bush to make room for a World War I-era cannon. The cannon previously was located on the grounds about 35 years ago but was removed by a group of young people during a prank. The cannon, which was damaged as a result of the prank, was restored by local businessman Luther Thomas, who has since died. Thomas’ family now seeks to return the cannon to the Courthouse. Commissioners approved three concrete pads — one for each wheel and the tongue — on which the cannon will rest.
