Those attending Crocker school district athletic games this year could see a change – an admission fee.
Superintendent Jim Bogle recommended charging a $1 admission fee for soccer, softball and baseball games at the Corcker R-II School District Board of Education meeting Tuesday.
Bogle said the fee is not expensive and the profits would help pay for uniforms for student athletes. He said it was suggested that the district issue athletic passes to Crocker students to avoid the fee, but charge adults and students from other schools coming to watch the games.
“One dollar is really nothing to pay,” Bogle said. “It would benefit the programs … we give it right back to the students.”
Board member Dawn Kubinski said one potential problem would be finding someone to sit at the gate and charge attendees. Bogle said it wouldn't be too difficult to find volunteers, teachers or parents, to help out during the school year.
“It's not much, but it's getting someone to stand there and take that money,” Kubinski said.
Board Vice President Robert Goodrich said several area districts charge an admission fee for athletic games, such as Iberia and Richland districts.
The board approved the admission price as long as someone could be found to to work the gates. If no one is willing, the fee will be forgotten.
The board also approved an increase in breakfast and lunch prices throughout the district.
Bogle said it was the first time in seven years that prices have been raised.
Bookkeeper Stephanie Knudson said though the district pretty much broke even last year on breakfast and lunch, years prior to that have left the district in the red. By implementing a small increase in prices, Knudson said the district could slowly bring itself into the black.
Bogle said the prices would increase five cents for elementary lunches and 10 cents for all other lunches. Breakfast prices would increase five cents for elementary students and grades five through eight, as well, Bogle said.
“It just helps supplement the food that we purchase,” Bogle said.
The board also approved the hiring of several assistant coaches.
Chuck Adams was approved as the assistant softball coach, Dennis Brown was approved as the assistant girls basketball coach and Kevin Zimmerman was approved as the assistant soccer coach.
