Surveillance cameras will keep a watchful eye on matters at Dixon High School after the Dixon Board of Education approved the matter last week.

The request came from DHS Principal Jerry Braschler, who asked the board to approve $5,248.65 for color cameras through St. Robert-based All American Security.

The owner of that company, Bill Meenan, confirmed Tuesday morning the school will be upgrading its system. He said outdoor surveillance cameras were installed a few years ago and said the indoor cameras will be beneficial.

“It’s for the safety of the students,” Meenan said.

Braschler said it’s an important need for the school and was a concern of his when he first arrived in the district.
“We presently have a system, but it’s not adequate to cover our building,” he said. “We’re just wanting to ensure the safety of our students.”
