Members of the Dixon R-I School Board are looking forward to hosting a Region 8 meeting of about two dozen school districts in Pulaski and four nearby counties.
At Monday night’s school board meeting, Superintendent Dawna Burrow said she’s especially looking forward to the meals being prepared by Phyllis Roberts, the Dixon district’s food service director, for the regional meeting of the Missouri School Boards Association.
“Phyllis has been experimenting in the office with some recipes and in the office we’re all enjoying it,” Burrow said.
Food is far from the only attraction in the Dixon schools, which have recently had major construction and building renovation and plan to “show off” their facilities when an estimated 75 to 100 MSBA delegates arrive. The meeting will be held in the multipurpose room of Dixon Elementary School, Burrow said, and teachers have been asked to leave their classroom “touches” up so other teachers can see what happens in Dixon during the school day.
“We’re in the planning stages and hopefully we will be able to come up with something you will all be proud of,” Burrow said.
Troy Porter, who serves as president of the Dixon R-I School Board, is also a member of the Missouri School Boards Association board of directors where he serves as the regional leadership chairman.
Porter and Burrow said Dixon last hosted the regional meeting within the previous eight years and said they’re looking forward to showing improvements in the school and its facilities.
“The elementary school has done a good job of showcasing their building for the new school year, and we just want them to leave up what they’ve done so our visitors can see it,” Burrow said.
