Ten JROTC cadets at Waynesville High School have earned Army ROTC college scholarships and one cadet has earned an appointment to the United States Air Force Academy.
The following cadets have earned ROTC scholarships: Rosa Mulligan, Wentworth Military Academy; Mitchell Bienusa, Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University; Rose Hardin, University of Missouri; Donald Holler, University of Arkansas; Aaron Kunnemann, University of Missouri; T.J. Mitchell, University of Missouri; Jordan Hancock, Texas A&M University; Tamara Singleton, University of Central Missouri; Alyssa Sutton, Hampton University; and Andriana White, Lincoln University.
JROTC cadet Stephanie Konvalin has earned an appointment to and will attend the United States Air Force Academy at Colorado Springs, Colo.
“The JROTC program at Waynesville High School puts a lot of emphasis on preparing their cadets to be competitive for college ROTC scholarships as well as appointments to the military academies,” said retired Army Lt. Col. William Nelson, senior Army instructor. “College ROTC programs and the academies are looking for motivated students who are well-rounded in scholarship, athletics and leadership. Many of our former students have continued to excel in college ROTC or at the academies and then earned commissions in the Army, the Air Force or Navy. One of our former students earned an officer’s commission in the United States Coast Guard.”
“Waynesville High School and the community provide a positive atmosphere in which high school students can try JROTC to see if they like it,” Nelson added. “There’s no obligation to join the military by taking JROTC, and many of our former students pursue careers outside the military. Regardless of their chosen careers, it’s always rewarding to see our graduates succeed in life.”
