FORT LEONARD WOOD— The 58th Transportation Battalion, part of the3rd Chemical Brigade, has been awarded the Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC) Army Award for Maintenance Excellence (AAME).
The AAME was established in 1982 to recognize units from all Army components for outstanding maintenance programs that increase and enhance mission capability.
Units that received the award displayed competence in maintenance above the standard regulations by improving technical proficiency, increasing operational readiness, and enhancing mission capability.
The unit is now competing with other units across the Army to win the award at the Department of the Army level.
According to Al Utley, Field Maintenance Officer, “Achieving this award represents what would be equated to winning the divisional level in football.”
Utley added, “Now, we want to keep moving ahead to qualify for the Super Bowl of awards that's presented by the Department of the Army.”
The process to achieve the award takes place throughout the year, as units identify their weaknesses and work to build upon their strengths to become better units and better soldiers.
A formal awards presentation is scheduled to be held early next year.
