An early-morning traffic accident on Polla Road resulted in the death of a civilian.
Preliminary investigation reveal the victim was operating a 1999 Dodge Stratus and was attempting to make a U-turn from a stopped position on the right shoulder of eastbound Polla road. The victim’s vehicle was struck by a 2005 GMC Yukon traveling east.
The victim’s vehicle was totaled and the majority of the damage was located on the driver side of the vehicle near the driver's door.
Emergency services arrived and attempted resuscitation efforts on the victim. The victim was transported to General Leonard Wood Army Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The other driver was treated for minor injuries and released from the hospital.
This accident is still under investigation and the name of the deceased is being withheld until notification of the next of kin.
