A 14,000 square-foot facility to honor those who have served the United States military will be built along the I-44 corridor, near Highway H in Waynesville.
The National Military Artifacts Museum will feature more than 1,000 artifacts ranging from soldiers’ personnel items during their service to a variety of weaponry seen throughout America’s war history, according to a press release from the developers, Havens Commercial, LLC.
The museum is expected to draw 150,000 to 250,000 people annually, and will employ 15 to 20 people.
Other museum features include inner and outer memorial walls featuring the names of those who died in action during the country’s various conflicts, as well as 16 life-size sculptors and a special events room that will be available for special occasion celebrations.
Lastly, an 11-story copper/bronze eagle, estimated at $3.5 million, is expected to be completed in 2011. The monument will be visible from five miles away.
