Diners at the busy El Jimador restaurant in St. Robert were startled by the site of a truck crashing through the front wall of the restautant Monday night.
According to a press release from St. Robert Police Dept., Ruben Perdroza, 22, of St. Robert accidentally drove his 2000 Ford F150 truck through the wall.

Perdroza was trying to back out of his parking place in front of the restaurant, placed his vehicle in drive instead of reverse and accelerated, according to SRPD.

SRPD's press release stated, “The acceleration caused the vehicle to be propelled forward, crossing the sidewalk and subsequently causing the Perdroza vehicle to impact with the building.”

Restaurant manager Martin Salgado told the Daily Guide that the vehicle took down the wall in the smoking section, but luckily no one was hurt, not even the driver, even though the restaurant was full of customers.

El Jimador was forced to board up the front of the restaurant overnight Monday, but began making repairs early Tuesday morning.

Salgado and a crew spent Tuesday doing repairs, hoping to be able to reopen the restaurant right away. Salgado said reopening was dependent upon how fast they could make the repairs and pending an inspection by the city.

According to SRPD's press release, “The Perdroza vehicle sustained minor damage while the restaurant sustained extensive damage.”

Perdroza was arrested for operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated by SRPD and was released on bond. Perdroza is scheduled to appear in St. Robert Municipal Court on Feb. 10.
