Crocker, Mo. -

The owners of the Sellers-Sexton car dealership in St. Robert have agreed to expand their longstanding teaching awards program in Waynesville to an additional school district.
Meeting Tuesday night, members of the Crocker R-II School Board heard a proposal by John Riffe, the parts department manager for the dealership, to have the district being a “teacher of the quarter” program. Four teachers per year would be selected by the school district and receive a $150 award and a plaque from the car dealership, Riffe said.
“We do a lot of community support things, mostly in Waynesville, and I asked the owners if we could expand that a little,” Riffe said. “We don’t want to have any input in your decision. You’re the professionals and you know who should be honored.”
Riffe said his proposal would expand an existing Crocker program to recognize a “teacher of the month.”
That’s not quite right, said Board President Charles Worstell, but close.
“Actually, we have an employee of the month, so it doesn’t have to be a teacher,” Worstell said.
Board member Don Mayhew asked if the Sellers-Sexton owners plan to expand the program to all area school districts.
“No, it’s something we only do with Waynesville now, but we wanted to do expand it a little,” Riffe said.
No specific plans for future expansion have been made, Riffe said, but it’s possible if the Crocker expansion goes well.
“We’re glad you started with us,” Mayhew said.
Board members also received a report from Superintendent Jim Bogle noting that students received several recent awards:
• Crocker cheerleaders attended a camp in Osage Beach and returned with awards for “most improved squad,” along with three “superior” ratings, two “excellent” ratings, and the spirit stick.
• Two Crocker soccer players, Nathan Rigsby and Michael Linggi, were selected to participate in the Southwest Soccer All Star game.
