The boil advisory was issued as a precautionary measure during the repairs of a fire hydrant; since the water pressure in the main water line will drop below 20 pounds per square inch (PSI) during work, which means there is a possibility of contaminants getting into the main.
The boil advisory is being issued by the City of St. Robert for the residents on Vernon Street, Vernon Circle and Porter Street only.
According to the Public Works Department the likelyhood of contaminants getting into the main is slim, but the city must issue an advisory due to Department of Natural Resources (DNR) standards. The boil advisory will remain in effect until the DNR samples results are returned to the Public Works Office, which will take three to five business days, according to the PWD.
The PWD advises customers in the above area to boil tap water for at least three minutes before consumption or use bottled water. Customers in the area will be notified when testing is complete and they can resume using their normal water supply; and businesses regulated by the Department of Health and Senior Services should also follow the appliable regulations, stated by PWD.
