Pulaski County could have its own Enhanced Enterprise Zone established sometime in March, the county’s economic developer said Monday.
Wayne Morgan, who spoke to the Dixon City Council, spoke about the EEZ, an economic development tool that provides tax credits to new or expanding businesses.
Morgan’s visit to the council was part of an application process that requires all cities in the county to sign ordinances regarding the EEZ.
Like the other cities that have already approved the ordinance, the item was met with unanimous approval from Dixon City Council members.
St. Robert and Waynesville, as well as the Pulaski County Commission, gave the ordinance their OK last month. Richland and Crocker are scheduled to consider the matter at their council meetings this month.
Qualified businesses located in an EEZ would receive real property tax abatement at 50 percent for at least 10 years, in addition to state tax credits.
Once all required entities sign off on the required ordinances, the application can be sent to the DOD for approval.
“It’s conceivable in March we could be granted the Enhanced Enterprise Zone,” Morgan said.
