The city of St. Robert is getting a new welcome sign, and as persons would suspect, it has a strong military influence.
The sign will be located on the northwest quadrant of the intersection of Missouri Avenue and Old Route 66, on property that is owned by developer Steve Ehrhardt.
"Thanks to the generosity of Mr. Steve Ehrhardt, we're got a place for this new welcome sign," said St. Robert City Administrator Alan Clark.
Clark is working with Ireland Architects of Springfield to develop the site, but the concept Clark presented a conceptual drawing to City Council members Monday.
There will be centerpiece stone wall with the City of St. Robert emblem and lettering that says, "Welcome to St. Robert," and Home to our Military Heroes."
To each side of the centerpiece there will be three monuments that will have the seals of each branch of military service. Clark said he prefers cultured stone facades to the monuments.
Also, there is to be a circular fountain with three flag poles behind the seven monuments. The center flag pole will have the U.S. flag flown above a POW-MIA flag. To the right of Old Glory will be the Missouri flag and to the left will fly the National 911 Remembrance flag.
"It will have electricity so when our heroes come home, and they seem to come home at midnight, they can see this. We want them to know," Clark said.
Asked when the project may begin, Clark said soon.
"Hopefully, we get this thing started this year," he said.
