Area firefighters responded to a house fire at the 31 block of Shagway Road located at the end of Highways NN and E on Tuesday, Jan. 31. “The house fire is under investigation at this time,” said Waynesville Rural Fire Department Chief Doug Yurecko. With close to four water tankers, including three fire engines, Yurecko said, “We had a bunch of firefighters out there responding to this fire.” According to the American Red Cross news release, an American Red Cross Capital Area Chapter volunteer is assisting the Laquey family after fire damaged their home and destroyed their belongings. The volunteer is providing the family with resources and referrals to collect food, clothing, local aid agencies and one night stay in a motel.
