Director of Public Works Lyle Thomas said the tower’s paint job was finished two weeks ago, but the tower won’t be back in service until further work and tests are completed.
Thomas said the tower needed to be refilled and sanitized, and, once it’s sanitized, the chlorine must sit for a few days before being drained.
Thomas said the tower was scheduled to be drained Tuesday.
It would then be refilled and water samples would be collected for testing. Once the water samples are returned clean, the tower will be back in service.
Thomas said the tower serves the west end of town.
“We haven’t had any issues as far as water pressure on the west end of town, so that’s good news,” Thomas said.
The tower was painted orange and black to show the area’s Tiger pride and declares ‘St. Robert is Tiger Country.’
Thomas said the work, both inside and out, cost about $150,000.
The city tries to clean and sanitize at least one tower every year, Thomas said.
