Drury University in St. Robert is planning to host a free seminar for local nonprofit organizations and other interested parties in order to help them in some key areas related to communication, public relations and developing community connections.
The seminar will be held Saturday, Feb. 18, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Drury University's St. Robert facility next to the Municipal Center. Food will be provided to attendees.
The instructor for the seminar is executive director of the Center for Nonprofit Communications Dan Prater who has extensive experience in the nonprofit organization arena as well as 10 years experience in the media.
Prater told the Daily Guide, “I plan to give them tools they can use in a real world setting,” in reference to what he hopes to teach area nonprofit organizations.
Prater said he hopes that nonprofits of all types attend the seminar including schools, charities, faith-based organizations, churches, health care institutions and government officials.“
One of my goals is to get the leaders of a community together,” Prater said.
The purpose of the seminar is to teach these organization skills that will help them “tighten” the message they are sending out to the public and image they want to develop, create a calendar to help in the construction of press releases, build connections in the community and media communication.
“That's the goal, is to provide them with resources that will help them complete their mission,” Prater said.
A large focus of the seminar will be on training organizations build connections and market themselves in the community.
Another area that will be addressed is public relations and media management. Prater will be offering advise, materials and tools organizations can use to communicate through the media.
“The goal is really to get people to think about their communication so that they are better,” Prater said.
In order to attend the seminar, interested individuals should call Drury at 573-451-2400 to reserve a seat because seating is limited.
