I am writing to comment on the new round of “Swift Boat” attacks that neoconservatives are making on Senator Barack Hussein Obama.
Dr. Jerome R. Corsi, one of the cofounders of “Swift Boat Veterans for Truth,” has just released a book entitled The Obama Nation. This book is so full of lies that the Obama campaign has released a 41-page rebuttal to Dr. Corsi’s book. The rebuttal is entitled Unfit for Publication and it is on the Internet at
http://my.barackobama.com/page/invite/corsi.
For those who are unaware, “Swift Boat Veterans for the Truth” is a right-wing organization that was formed with the sole purpose of destroying the reputation of Senator John Kerry, a decorated Vietnam veteran who ran for president against George W. Bush in 2004.
John O’Neill, another cofounder of the “Swift Boat Veterans,” is promoting another book that attacks Senator Obama. The book is entitled The Case Against Barack Obama and it is authored by David Freddoso, a reporter for National Review Online.
The funny thing is that both of these books are on the New York Times best seller list. This is not to say that thousands of people went out and bought these trashy books. One only has to arrange for certain right-wing organizations (American Enterprise Institute, Swift Boat Veterans, etc.) to make bulk orders of the book. When a book (even the sorriest book) appears on the New York Times best seller list, the book gains credibility. When thousands of people get these books for free, they will think that they are really getting a deal. Of course, Dr. Corsi and Mr. Freddoso know these facts.
Neoconservatives know that same thing that the rest of us know. They know that in a fair election, Senator McCain cannot win. This is why the neocons continue to attack Senator Obama. Neoconservatives have even asserted that Senator Obama is “not Black enough.” I find that funny when I consider that Senator Obama is blacker than any of the forty-three presidents we have had so far.
The newspaper story about the new round of Swift Boat attacks is on the Internet at http://blog.washingtonpost.com/sleuth/2008/08/theyre_baaaack_swift_boat_vete.html. The New York Times best seller list is at http://www.nytimes.com/2008/08/24/books/bestseller/besthardnonfiction.html?_r=1&oref=slogin.
The list shows that the book I mentioned have indeed been ordered in bulk.
