I would like to thank the citizens of Saint Robert for allowing me the privilege of serving as their Mayor for another term. Saint Robert has experienced outstanding economic growth during recent years. There have been many new additions to Saint Robert with many new restaurants, fast food chains, hotels, banks, car washes and the latest, the Lowes Home Improvement Store. The St. Robert Post Office has moved into the Municipal Center with operational hours Monday-Friday from 8-10:45 a.m. and 11: 30- 2:30 p.m.
Currently, there are three new hotels under construction and the new Sonic Drive-In is open for business. The Woodland Hills Redevelopment Project located just outside of Fort Leonard Wood’s front gate is currently completing its demolition phase and will become a major commercial center that will include additional retail shopping, restaurants, hotels, convention center, office complex and community center.
We here at City Hall have been busy improving city services. In June, we will be opening our new Municipal Courtroom which will be the largest courtroom in Pulaski County. The Police Department has made upgrades to their communication system, expanded the K-9 program to three dogs, added camera systems and radars in all patrol units, and has applied for a COPS Grant for an additional two officers. The Fire Department added new full time fire fighters giving the city 24 hour, 7 day a week fire protection coverage with full time staff, received a grant for the purchase of a Fire Pup costume to be used in their fire prevention program and received the Life Safety Achievement Award for 2008 from the Residential Fire Safety Institute.
Multiple capital improvements related to infrastructure are being performed. Of major significance is the Eastlawn Avenue street project to be completed during 2009 – 2010 with the addition of curbs, gutters, sidewalks and streetlights. We have made additions to the Transfer Station, including household hazardous waste drop off, a recycling center, secure document shredding and beginning May 4, 2009, we will offer electronic waste recycling. As some of these services require an appointment, please call 573-336-5155 for additional information or to schedule an appointment.
As our community continues to grow and prosper, we are dedicated to continue seeking those opportunities that will enhance the quality of life for our residents, including increased job opportunities, diverse retail shopping, family oriented entertainment, park enhancements, and expanded health care facilities. I thank you for your support of our local businesses and military servicemembers and look forward to our residents continuing to “Come Grow With Us.”
