The WHS wrestling squad competed in the Missouri Duals tournament over the weekend hosted by Helias High School and battled with 13 other teams to make it to the championship round, where they defeated St. Louis Christian Brothers 48-27, finishing fifth overall at the two-day event.
First round action started Friday night where the Tigers opened up against Eureka, losing 42-39; followed by a narrow victory over Jefferson City, 35-30. On day two Waynesville dueled Omaha Burke and won 43-28, followed by Columbia Hickman, winning easily 49-14.
The Tigers, currently ranked fourth in the state in class 4, weren’t as fortunate in the next dual as they lost to Ozark, currently ranked second in class 4, for the second time this season, 45-24. WHS then dropped its next dual, against Kearney 48-23.
Heavyweight sophomore Jacob Semple had a perfect showing, earning seven wins and zero losses for the Tigers.
