Sophomore A.J. Imilkowski scored the game-winning goal in the second overtime period on Monday, lifting the Crocker High School boys’ soccer team to a 6-5 victory over Springfield Central.
The Crocker Lions, a Missouri Class 1 State Tournament semifinalist last fall, were down by two goals with 10 minutes left in regulation. However, Crocker reeled off two goals to tie the game 5-5 and force overtime.
The game was still tied after the first overtime period, setting up Imilkowski’s game-winner in the second extra period.
Crocker led 3-1 in the first half before Central reeled off three unanswered goals to take a 4-3 halftime advantage.
Imilkowski had two goals and an assist for the Lions while sophomore Jessie Tart tallied two goals, sophomore Teddy Zeigenbein had a goal and assist, sophomore Cody Gibson a goal and junior Tjalling Bosker an assist.
Three players – sophomore Johnathon Crawford, junior A.J. VanCamp and Gibson – shared time in goal for Crocker.
In half of a junior varsity game Crocker won 1-0.
Friday
On Friday at Dixon, Crocker scored another one-goal win, topping Dixon 5-4.
Bosker erupted for the hat trick, scoring three goals and adding an assist. Also for the Lions Zeigenbein had a goal and assist and Imilkowski had one goal. Gibson was the goal-keeper.
Dixon won the jayvee game.
Crocker’s records are now 2-1 on the varsity level and 1-2 for the jayvee.
“We’ve had good games to start with,” said Crocker head coach Lori Bogle. “And when you win a close game it’s even better. It was a matter of not giving up and playing strong physically. We had a lot of good passing. It was really back and forth in both (the Central and Dixon games).
“We have a real good group of sophomores who have been playing together for a long time. So while we’re a young team, we’re an experienced team. And we still have a fairly fast team. Probably the biggest weakness is we don’t have a set goalie.”
The Lions are scheduled to host Iberia Saturday, with action starting at 2 p.m.
