The top-seeded Richland High School boys’ basketball team started off well but then went cold and had to battle back in the second half, only to fall to fifth-seeded Belle 63-62 Thursday in the semifinals of the 50th annual Iberia Tournament.
Richland will now play in the third-place game today against sixth-seeded Vienna.
Richland (8-5) lit up the scoreboard for 19 points in the first quarter while holding Belle to just 10 points to take a 19-10 first quarter lead. Both teams though would only combine for 18 total points in the second quarter and would go into the half with Richland leading 28-19.
The third quarter would be the Bears undoing as they could only muster 13 points while Belle hit for 26 points and took a 45-41 advantage into the last quarter of play.
Richland fought back hard in the fourth quarter outscoring Belle 21-18 but that would be one point less then what was needed and Richland would lose the game 63-62.
Cody Hall led Richland with 23 points, while Jake Shelton, Seth Myers and Aaron Tallant would all add 11 points each.
In the other semi-final game, seventh seeded St. Elizabeth beat Vienna 44-34.
