The Waynesville Babe Ruth Baseball teams (the Tigers and the Warriors) have one week left in the regular season. As of Sunday night, the Tigers are in a three-way-tie for first place at 6-2 and the Warriors are in fourth place at 5-3.
The Warriors split their two games last week losing 6-2 in a very short game and winning 14-8 in the other.
The Tigers won two out of three, losing a tough 10-8 decision to Plato to drop into a tie for first with Plato and a Lebanon team.
The Babe Ruth teams also combined players and participated in the Springfield Catholic 15-and-under tournament, taking fourth place.
Romeo Flores and Zac York made the all-tournament team and Waynesville got a lot of solid performances all around.
Flores pitched and won the opening game with a solid performance, striking out seven and walking none in a 9-6 win over the host Springfield Catholic Irish.
Zac York was a tough luck loser in game two, going four-plus innings and only giving up one earned run.
York went 4-for-11 at the plate in the tournament and threw out the potential go ahead run in the first game. Ethan Howser went 5-for-12, Eriq Kristek went 4-for-9 and Thomas Bedwell went 4-for-10, recording a hit in each game.
Eric Toy, a 13-year-old catcher, did a great job behind the plate and threw out two base runners.
The Warriors played on Monday night, but results were not available at press time.
However, they’ll both play again today; the Warriors at 6 p.m. and the Tigers at 8 p.m.
All games are played at Oley Scott Field at Lebanon High School.
