This Springfield gig is going pretty good for Katie Pritchard.
Pritchard, the two-sport all-stater from Waynesville High School, has already moved to Springfield, taking classes and undergoing off-season conditioning for the Drury University women’s basketball team.
Also a standout in soccer, Pritchard participated in the Southwest All-Star s Soccer Games on Thursday at the Cooper Soccer Complex in Springfield. The all-star soccer event, showcasing top 2007-08 prep seniors from southwest Missouri, had been scheduled for June 19 but was backed up a week due to weather.
Although Pritchard will be playing basketball at Drury, she is known on the soccer field as a dominant scorer, as she is Missouri High School Class 2’s all-time career goal-scoring leader with 171.
Her scoring touch was on display in the girls’ game at the Southwest All-Stars event on Thursday.
Pritchard ended her competitive soccer career by scoring the hat trick, getting all three goals to help the Gold Team play to a 3-3 tie with the Red team.
Obviously, Pritchard was named the Gold Team’s Most Valuable Player.
The boys’ all-star game also ended in a 3-3 tie.
Pritchard scored her first goal about a minute into the game.
Later in the first half Pritchard got her second goal off a cross from Springfield Kickapoo’s Katy McLain to make it 2-0.
After a goal by Springfield Glendale’s Lorin Opfer gave the Red Team a 3-2 edge, Pritchard tied things up 3-3 with a goal late in the second half.
