It should come as no surprise to anyone, but now it’s official: In a press release earlier this week, Frisco League softball coaches announced that they have named Crocker junior Katie Shockley the 2009 MVP.
The Lady Lions’ ace pitcher, Shockley finished the season with a jaw-dropping 0.19 ERA in 112 innings pitched. She struck out 233 and walked only 17.
She also led the team at the plate, hitting .437 with a .474 on-base percentage and a .592 slugging percentage. She knocked in a team-high 28 RBIs.
The rest of the all-conference team features seven Crocker Lady Lions and six Iberia Lady Rangers, fitting since they finished as the top two in the conference.
Iberia edged out Crocker 1-0 to finish a perfect 7-0 in conference play. Crocker finished second at 6-1.
Iberia’s Lisa Law was the league’s coach of the year; the Lady Rangers finished with a 19-5 record before losing to Blair Oaks in the Class 2 District 9 final.
Crocker finished 22-3 and lost 1-0 in the Class 1 state quarterfinals to eventual state champion Clopton.
