LAQUEY— Laquey big man Andre Hilbert roughed up the Climax Springs Cougars on Tuesday night, recording a triple double with 23 points, 22 rebounds and 10 blocks as the Hornets won 68-50 to kick off the 2009/ 2010 basketball season.
“Andre is a real force in there,” Laquey head coach Bill Blanton said of his 6-9 center. “He’s fun to watch and fun to coach.”
Laquey struggled in the first half, but were able to pull away in the second half to come away with the big victory.
“It was a first game-type game,” Blanton said. “I wasn’t really pleased with a lot of our errors tonight, especially free throws. We're usually really good free throw shooters.”
The Hornets went 18-for-29 (62 percent) from the line. However, they only turned the ball over five times and only once in the first half.
Senior Andrew Cook added 15 points and senior Nick York added 12 for the Hornets (1-0).
The Hornets are the No. 2 seed in next week’s Frisco League Tournament, they’ll play No. 7 Richland on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.
