It’s a busy Friday and Saturday for area sports teams, and area sports fans won’t have far to look either.

Waynesville High School is hosting three different events this weekend and competing in two more, while other area schools are also joining in on the tournament fun.

Kicking off the weekend today is the Waynesville Invitational Track meet, which will begin at 4 p.m. at Slaughter Field. Waynesville has hosted one track meet this year, but team scores were not recorded.

Today’s meet will be scored and will be bigger: while only eight schools competed in that meet, there will be twelve competing today.

Aside from the Tiger teams, Ozark Conference opponents Joplin, Lebanon, Camdenton and West Plains will also be participating, as will district-mate Jefferson City.

Four Frisco League schools–Iberia, Newburg, Licking and Dixon–will also compete.  Rounding out the field are Eldon and Fulton.

Soccer: The Waynesville JV Girls Soccer Tournament also begins Friday afternoon at the soccer complex behind East Elementary School.
The long-running tournament has been played annually since 1997, save 2002 and 2004 when the tournament was rained out.

Besides Waynesville, nine other teams will compete: Camdenton, Dixon, Fatima, Helias, Jefferson City, Lebanon, Rolla, Richland and St. James.

The action kicks off on this afternoon at 4:30 p.m. when Fatima takes on Lebanon. Also this afternoon, Jefferson City will take on Dixon at 6:15. At 8 p.m., Helias will play Camdenton and Richland takes on Waynesville.

Play continues to Saturday, where games will be played at 8 a.m., 9:45 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 1:15 p.m. and 3 p.m.

Varsity: Meanwhile, the Varsity Tigers will travel to West Plains for the Lady Zizzer Soccer Classic tonight and Saturday.

The ten-team pool-play event will pit Waynesville against Moberly, Cape Girardeau Central and Jonesboro, (Ark.) Nettleton.

Also competing are host West Plains, Sikeston, Affton, Mountain View Liberty, Springfield Parkview and Jonesboro Valley View.

The Lady Tigers will play their first game at 5:45 p.m. against Nettleton at the West Plains Soccer Field.

On Saturday they’ll play Cape Central at 8:30 a.m. and then Moberly at 1 p.m.

Camdenton Tournament: The Laquey girls will play in the Lady Laker Invitational on today and Saturday. They open with host Camdenton at 6 p.m. tonight.

Also competing in the double-elimination bracket are Kansas City Barstow, Booneville, Branson, Sedalia Sacred Heart, Mexico and Warrensburg.

Tennis: The Waynesville tennis team will host a tennis tournament on Saturday, which will begin at 9 a.m. at the Waynesville High School tennis courts.

Baseball:
The Tigers were scheduled to compete in the Lebanon Tournament, but as of press time it was unknown if they would play this weekend.
