The Dixon High School girls’ basketball team has once again made it to the finals of a tournament, beating Eugene on Wednesday night 69-57 in the semifinals of the Richland Tournament.
Dixon (10-2) will play Osage in the title game Friday. Osage beat Cuba 47-39 in the other semifinal game Wednesday.
Eugene started the scoring early, jumping out to a quick 7-2 lead, but that is as far as Dixon would allow them to go before taking over the first quarter and going on a 17-5 run to end the quarter with a 19-12 lead.
Dixon continued its hot hand in the second quarter as Hunter Yoakum scored seven of her 21 points in the second and Dixon cruised into the half with a 39-23 advantage.
Eugene begin to press more in the second half and kept pace with the Bulldogs, matching them point-for-point throughout the quarter. Dixon would outscore Eugene 16-15 in the third.
With a 55-38 lead it looked like nothing could derail the Bulldogs but that is when Eugene begin to apply their press even more and Dixon saw their lead slowly decreasing as the quarter wore on.
“I think we got careless with the basketball the last three minutes of the ball game,” said Dixon head coach Butch O'Riley. “We just didn't think about what we were doing. Eugene is a good team and you can't do that against them.”
Yoakum would lead Dixon with 21 points while Kristen McMillian would add 15 points and Dakota Purcell, back from an illness that kept her out of the first-round game, chipped in 11 points.

Eugene (57): Adrian 17, Blythe 10, Rush 10, White 8, Lewis 6, Morrow 2, Doerhoff 2, Brown 2.
Dixon (69): Yoakum 21, McMillian 15, Purcell 11, Shanahan 8, Whitaker 8, Ray 4, Wade 2.
