Waynesville High School senior Lyle Cox, left, is honored by Rep. David Day, R-Dixon, with a resolution lauding his many accomplishments on the field and in the classroom. “Lyle gave everyone in our area reason to celebrate as he helped lead Waynesville to the Class 5 state (football) title and provided us with a season filled with not only exciting plays but also ideal sportsmanship,” said Rep. Day. “He is an outstanding athlete but an even better person and I am immensely proud of all he was able to accomplish in high school. I know he will be a great college athlete and student and represent our area in a way that will continue to make all of us proud.” Cox, a quarterback, helped the Tiger football team finish 12-1 and win the Class 5 state football championship in 2007. He was named all-district, all-conference and all-state and also appeared in the High School All-American Bowl Classic – a showcase of prep senior recruits – at Jackson, Miss. in January of this year. Cox will play for the University of Central Missouri football squad this coming fall. During his meeting with Rep. Day, Cox received his resolution and presented the representative with a video of his all-star game performance.
