CONWAY— The Laquey Hornets got a bit of revenge.
In the pool play of the Conway Tournament, the third-seeded Hornets won the second of many games against their Frisco League rival 73-59, putting them into the championship game against Strafford on Saturday, weather permitting.
The Hornets used a 22-9 second quarter outburst to tame the Tigers.
Andre Hilbert led the Hornets with 19, while Andrew Cook and Brandon Click each added 14 points. Chace Caldwell scored 10.
The Hornets held Stoutland’s Billy Willard and Travis Miller to two points each in the first half.
Willard finished with a game-high 27, while Miller added eight, six of which came during the fourth quarter. Willard scored 10 consecutive points in the game’s final moments.
Laquey improves to 14-4 and will take on Strafford in the championship game Saturday at 7:30 p.m., weather permitting.
Stoutland (12-2) takes on Morrisville in the third-place game at 6 p.m. while hosts Conway play Springfield Catholic at 4:30 p.m. for fifth place.
Laquey girls fall
HARTVILLE— The Laquey Lady Hornets traveled to Hartville Thursday night and fell 55-38 to the Lady Eagles.
The Lady Hornets were down only three points at the half but Hartville pulled away in the third quarter en route to a 55-38 victory.
The Lady Hornets were led by senior guard Emily Murray and junior Tyler Brock, who scored 14 points each.
Laquey, who falls to 16-3 with the loss, will play the Fair Grove Lady Eagles (14-3) on Saturday. The junior varsity game will tip off at 6 p.m. with the varsity to follow.
