The Tiger Marathon Kids Program was on the move, Tuesday morning May 6.
The program is designed to promote fitness, reading, and character education within the Waynesville R-VI School District’s for 5th and 6th grade classes.
Children are challenged to read 26 books, perform 26 good deeds and run 26.2 miles over a six-month period.
All of this hard work culminated when the 5-6 grade students ran their final 1.2 miles with the Superintendent of Schools, Dr Judene Blackburn, the High School cross country team, district principals, and other special guests in a celebration run.
Students and faculty gathered at St. Robert Glass and started their run there. They were greeted on the route by area businesses, which included Sellers-Sexton, Inc. The race concluded near the Maple Tree Plaza in St. Robert. Deanne House, Director of Food Services and Coordinator for the event stated “she was very proud of the students for their hard work and dedication”.
In addition to the district’s Superintendent, Dr. Judene Blackburn, other district principals participating were: Hilary Bales, Mike Morriss, George Lauritson, Mark Parker and Sonya Campbell.
Placing first in the event was Wade Howser, 5th grader at Freedom Elementary, second place was Jordon Sirois, 6th grader at Wood Elementary and third place went to Kain Williams who is a 5th grader at Partridge Elementary.
