CMAC’s first show this summer blends the music of a bluegrass fiddler and a British rocker.
Robert Plant of Led Zeppelin fame will join Grammy-winning bluegrass singer and fiddler Alison Krauss for the first show of the summer at the Constellation Brands-Marvin Sands Performing Arts Center (CMAC) at Finger Lakes Community College.
The concert is set for June 7 but tickets will be available — for some — as early as next week.
Krauss and Plant will feature songs from “Raising Sand,” the album they released in October 2007. The collaboration, produced by singer-songwriter T Bone Burnett, includes songs in the blues, bluegrass, country and folk genres. One track on the album — “Gone Gone Gone (Done Moved On)” — won the 2007 Grammy award for best pop collaboration with vocals.
Burnett will perform several songs himself, as well as performing with Plant and Krauss, who will also perform songs from their individual careers.
Though Plant is a new face to Canandaigua music crowds, Krauss has performed here before — most recently with Union Station, her band since 1989. Krauss and Union Station had the second highest-selling concert at CMAC during the 2007 summer series, losing out only to country legend Willie Nelson’s season-ending show.
The concert will be the first for the venue’s new promoter, Metropolitan Talent. Based in New York City, the entertainment company is led by co-CEO John Scher, who has a long record of booking music events in the Rochester area and throughout the Northeast. Constellation Brands chose Metropolitan Talent over two other candidates in early December 2007 to promote shows at the shell.
Doors open at 6 p.m. for the 8 p.m. show on Saturday, June 7. An American Express ticket presale begins Monday, Feb. 25, at 10 a.m. and ends March 2 at 10 p.m. (It’s only for American Express Card holders, who will be notified.)
